Loft insulation is a protective layer installed within your roof space. It can be placed between the joists—the horizontal beams along your attic floor—or between the rafters, which are the angled beams supporting your roof.
In either case, loft insulation slows the transfer of heat between your home and the outside, keeping your living space warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Insulation between the joists keeps heat in the rooms below, creating a colder loft, while insulation in the rafters also retains warmth in the roof space itself.
